Early Life
Salman Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife, Sushila Charak, who later adopted the name Salma. Born into a Muslim father and a Hindu mother, Khan grew up experiencing both faiths. In 1981, Salim Khan married actress Helen, which led to a strained relationship between Salman and his father, although it later improved. Khan’s paternal great-grandparents were believed to be Alakozai Pashtuns from Afghanistan who migrated to India during the 1800s. His grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was a Deputy Inspector General of Indore State and was awarded the Diler Jung Award. On his mother’s side, Khan has Dogra Rajput ancestry from Jammu and Kashmir and Maratha roots from Maharashtra.

| Controversies | Blackbuck hunting case (1999): Salman & his co-stars of Hum Saath Saath Hain were accuse of hunting blackbuck deer & chinkara (endangered animals) while shooting for the film in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. On 5 April 2018, he was found guilty in the Blackbuck Killing Case and was sentence to 5 years by the Jodhpur Court; Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri pronounced the verdict. He was charged under Section 51 of Wildlife (Protection) Act. The Jodhpur Court gave benefit of doubt to “Hum Saath Saath Hain” co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam, and Sonali Bendre. On 8 April 2018, he was granted a bail by the Jodhpur Sessions court; after spending two nights in Jodhpur jail. • Hit-and-run case (2002): Salman drove his car over the people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery at night. One person was killed, while three persons were injured in this accident. His relationship with Aishwarya Rai (2002): Aishwarya’s parents lodged a complaint against him for harassing their daughter.
